About Evans Elementary School
Evans Elementary School, located in the Sand Creek Zone at 1675 Winnebago Road in Colorado Springs, is fully committed to providing high academic expectations, as well as positive social and behavioral outcomes for students. Our educators continue to strengthen our academic, social and emotional programs through rigorous training and reflection. We follow a robust and rigorous schedule to ensure that all students' needs are being identified and addressed with targeted and individualized intervention. Our focus is to inspire all students to reach their maximum potential by modeling and teaching intertwined academic and interpersonal skills within our engaging curriculum.
Curriculua
Evans focuses on inquiry based teaching and concepts that develop essential skills, such as research, communication and social skills. Our curriculum and instruction models foster positive attitudes such as tolerance, respect and responsibility. We believe that inquiry-based learning increases student engagement and motivation. To emphasize educating the whole child, our students engage in music, physical education, art, and technology classes. We also offer classes in special education, English Language Development, classroom guidance and media. Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) is our core literacy curriculum in grades K-5. CKLA combines rich, diverse content knowledge in history, science, literature, and the arts with systematic, research-based, foundational literacy skill instruction. We utilize the Eureka Math curriculum as our core math curriculum. Eureka Math is aligned to the state standards and connects math to the real world. All students will also use ST Math, an online visual math program that builds a deep conceptual understanding of math through rigorous learning and creative problem-solving.
Extracurricular
Each year there are a number of after-school activities offered at Evans. Some examples from previous years include: basketball, choir, jump rope, golf, bowling, and piano. Students are also active in Battle of the Books, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Young Rembrandts, and The Edge of Space Club.
Community
An involved parent community, including an active Parent Teacher Organization and School Accountability Committee, supports the school. Along with administration and teachers, these organizations sponsor educational programs at the school and help it acquire money through various fundraisers. Other activities that involve parents and community are family nights, fundraisers, The Week of Thanks, and other various events.
